FJR Finance is currently representing a small, but global, City of London based International, Investment Bank to hire a permanent Head of Compliance - (SMF16/ SMF17).
The bank is genuinely a really friendly working environment and offers an excellent work culture, as well as the company being a successful, small, but still global bank. At-the-moment the company are working-from-home under UK Government guidelines, until otherwise advertised.
The company are dual regulated – FCA & PRA and whilst this is a senior position, the London Branch is small and it is paramount that the ideal person must be very much “hands-on” and most definitely not shy away from leading and getting involved (actually doing the work) in all aspects of Compliance in addition to associated works for example, Senior Managers Regime and the Remuneration Code (Level 1).
This role also encompasses all aspects of a regulatory oversight. Experience of acting as a Data Protection Officer is also required. Competences to perform compliance function in such areas as IT, Market Knowledge, Business Strategy & Model, Accounting, Financial Analysis & Controls, Risk Management & Control, Governance Oversight & Controls, and Regulatory Framework and Requirements.
The role reports to an expatriate Joint General Manager, Chief Risk Officer (CRO) registered SMF4, in London with a dotted reporting line to Compliance Division in Head Office. The role will have x 4 reports.
The candidate must have proven experience of a minimum x 10-years and be technically competent in general finance/ Banking Treasury (Products traded such as Fixed Income, FX, Interest Rate Derivatives and Structured Products).
You will be required to work autonomously in an advisory capacity to the CRO, the entire business functions in the London Branch and they will also be required to provide information to their Head Office.
The London Branch has a strong Compliance culture with all levels of management viewing it as a benefit so this is not an environment where the candidate may struggle to get people on side or where they will be viewed as an internal policing force providing it is proportionate and commensurate with the nature, scale and complexity of the business.
This role will be the “go to” person for senior management and staff seeking specialist regulatory advice and will be responsible for taking the lead in drafting and implementing all compliance policies and the on-going provision/maintenance of current in-house compliance training to support the London Branch business.
They will be responsible for their own day-to-day transactional work. The Compliance Manager and Legal and Monitoring Officer report into this role and the role will be responsible for performance managing this team.
This role will be responsible for organising and accompanying senior management to regulatory meetings. The role will be responsible for taking meeting notes and writing them up afterwards.
When working in the office, this role will not have their own office; they will be required to work in an open plan office.
The working hours are 09:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but due to the seniority of this role it is not unusual for this role to be working beyond 5:00 p.m. some evenings.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience (please see attached Job Description):
You must already be SMF16 and/or SMF16 and SMF17 (Money Laundering Reporting Officer).
To be considered for this role the candidates must have held/ hold a Compliance position in a regulated financial organisation and have strong in-house financial services exposure and be currently registered with the Regulators. They must have a minimum of 10 years experience of working with organisations in the medium to high-risk category.

A comprehensive knowledge of regulation and the ability to put in place proportionate and appropriate systems and controls for the business are vital. It is important for the job holder to advise senior management and other relevant staff on all regulatory requirements that may impact on the Bank.
They will be required to establish reporting requirements and monitor internal departments’ activities and adherence to company policy and procedures.
This is a key role for the Bank and the candidate will be expected to be an effective communicator with good influencing and analytical skills. Senior management expect the candidate to frequently liaise with the external regulators and develop a good relationship with them.
Personality and fit will be key in successfully working in this organisation. Whilst you must be able to apply your technical Compliance knowledge to execute the tasks contained in the Job Description they are required to work autonomously and be pro-active and enthusiastic in understanding and working in close alignment to the London Branch business and expatriate staff. You must also have a flexible disposition and not shy away from being prepared to be “hands-on” and get involved in and tackle an additional broad variety of ad-hoc compliance tasks which may not necessarily be detailed in the Job Description and which may arise from time-to-time.
You must also have a flexible, patient, approachable, mature (in outlook) and responsible, reliable and honest disposition. Up to £120 k pa plus £7 k cash allowance paid after successfully passing of 6-month probation, plus bonus, excellent pension, Life Assurance, Private Medical Cover, Group Income Protection and Sports Subsidy.
